Professor Preecha Thaothong
Technique : National Artist - Visual Arts (Painting) 2009
Size : 549 x 349 cm
This work of art was inspired by Professor Preecha’s desire to create new ideas by bringing together the elements of painting, sculpture, and modern digital art to create a model that was not based on real life but constructed entirely from the imagination. It is an artistic innovation in creativity that still retains the fundamental idea in expressing Thainess in the form of art.
The presentation of this work of art utilizes modern media involving light, shadows, and sounds that combine to make this architectural artwork both a three and two dimensional experience. On the two dimensional plane a beam of light creates shadows. This imaginary light is shone from a projector through the window depicted on the painting. Simulation is not only limited to light but also involves the sounds of wind blowing, thunder, and monks chanting. Viewers experiencing this ambiance feel as if they are standing in a corner of a temple – a religious place in the Rattanakosin era where the early morning sunlight slowly shines through. Birds are chirping in the gentle breeze while the sound of thunder reverberates on the temple’s roof amidst the calm chanting of monks. The light continues to pass from right to left and gradually disappears.
Also embedded in this artistic creation are elements that relate to C.P. Group. To the right of painting there is a realistic three dimensional window pane that can be opened and shut. When opened, one can see the Phra Buddha Nawarat Bophit a Buddha statue and the Phra Somdet Chitralada amulet which His Majesty King Rama IX graciously bestowed on C.P. Group on April 23, 1996 and are enshrined within.
