CPLI proudly participated in the opening ceremony of the 3rd Durian GI Festival Pakchong Khaoyai 2024, supporting and promoting the advancement of quality certification standards for the Pak Chong Durian and Horticultural Community Enterprises.
The ceremony, held at the front plaza of the Nong Nam Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, was graced by the presence of Mr. Somkiat Viriyakulnan, Vice Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, as the presiding official. Distinguished attendees included Mr. Jeerasak Sripetch, Nakhon Ratchasima Commerce Officer; Mr. Kanatchon Sricharoen, Chief Pak Chong District Officer; Mr. Bandit Koetmongkol, Pak Chong District Agricultural Officer; Lt. R.O. Natthaphong Thongdee, Senior Assistant Chief District Officer; Mr. Kamron Kanokchatchawan, Chief Executive of the Nong Nam Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization; Ms. Phenpimon Deesuan, former Pak Chong District Agricultural Officer; representatives from the Pak Chong Durian and Horticultural Community Enterprises; and numerous GI durian farmers from Pak Chong and Khao Yai.
Held from June 28 to 30, 2024, the festival aims to promote the Pak Chong Khao Yai durian farmers by showcasing and selling durians with GI certification, thereby generating income and improving the livelihoods of the community. The event featured over 30 booths selling fruits and other products, a durian quality contest, a durian-eating competition with GI durians, and a durian tasting session featuring GI-certified Pak Chong durians provided by the Department of Intellectual Property.
Pak Chong durians are cultivated on more than 10,000 rai of land, with approximately 4,000 rai currently produced. Known for their unique qualities-crisp exterior, soft interior, delicate texture, and mild aroma due to the favorable climate and soil conditions-Pak Chong durians are grown in mountainous areas that support multiple varieties, including Monthong, Long Laplae, Musang King, Black Thorn, and Kan Yao. Besides durians, the festival also featured other GI fruits such as Pak Chong Khao Yai custard apples, and products seeking GI registration like Pak Chong avocados, as well as organic and pesticide-free agricultural products including dragon fruits, guavas, and salad greens from the Nong Nam Daeng subdistrict and surrounding areas.
