CPLI Promotes Environmental Awareness Among Youth with "Wian Tian with Trees" Initiative

The CP Leadership Institute (CPLI), in partnership with the Plant a Tree Plant Dhamma Foundation, recently hosted an event titled "Merit-Making in a New Way: Wian Tian with Trees for a Beautiful World, Clear Air, and Happy Hearts." The initiative was held at Wat Chanthuek in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima, to commemorate Asalha Puja and Buddhist Lent Day 2025.
The event brought together over 100 participants, including CPLI employees, teachers, and students from Pak Chong School. The gathering was organized to honor Buddhist traditions while actively advancing sustainable development through community-based environmental action.
A central activity was the "Wian Tian with Trees," a contemporary interpretation of the traditional candlelit circumambulation ceremony. Instead of candles, participants circled the temple with saplings. This innovative approach serves the dual purpose of spiritual observance and practical environmental contribution, aimed at mitigating global warming, reducing PM 2.5 air pollution, and expanding green areas.
A total of 500 saplings were featured in the ceremony. These included native trees such as Yang Na (Dipterocarpus alatus), Orange Trumpet (Radermachera ignea), and Acacia mangium, alongside edible plants like Thai eggplant, sweet basil, and holy basil. Significantly, these saplings were cultivated in used plastic cups as part of the "Grows Green in Cups project, an initiative launched by CPLI in May. Students from Pak Chong School nurtured the saplings, demonstrating a complete cycle of environmental responsibility from recycling to reforestation.
Following the ceremony, participants were encouraged to take the saplings, referred to as "Merit Trees," to plant at their homes. This gesture extends the event's impact, contributing to carbon dioxide absorption and enhancing local food security with organically grown produce, thereby potentially reducing household and school expenses.
The initiative reflects the core "3-Benefits" principle of the Charoen Pokphand Group, which seeks to generate value for the nation, its people, and the organization. By engaging local youth in tangible activities, CPLI effectively promotes the social and environmental pillars of ESG, establishing a foundation for sustainable development driven by the next generation.
